AI Web Design & Frontend Skills Catalog/An update message does not verify your installed skill

AI Web Design & Frontend Skills Catalog · Question revision 1

Which ready-made AI agent skills are most useful for web design and frontend development, and when should you use each one?

An update message does not verify your installed skill.

If you adapt a frontend skill locally, record its source revision and your edits before updating it. For the inspected Vercel Skills global-update path, the command compares an upstream folder hash with the lock entry. It does not compare the installed files. A message that the skill is up to date therefore does not prove that the agent will load the same bytes as the source.

After updating: inspect the installed SKILL.md and bundled files, check whether agent-facing paths are copies or symlinks, and compare them with the source revision and local edits you intended to keep. Do this before using the skill on a project.

What supports this warning

A user report for Vercel Skills 1.5.20 describes a modified global skill returning “All global skills are up to date.” The current source still compares the upstream GitHub tree with the recorded lock hash in that path. The proposed repair option remains a draft pull request. We did not install the CLI or reproduce the report.

Another user report says a project skill installed with --copy became a symlink after update. The inspected updater invokes add without that copy flag. We have not checked this behavior across CLI versions or agent targets. The maintainer documentation describes updating skills, not verifying local file integrity.

Where this fits in the catalogue

This does not change which frontend task a skill serves, and it does not add a seventeenth recommendation. It changes the adoption check: an upstream status, a lock entry, and the installed files are three different records. For a project-local adaptation, compare all three before treating an update as safe. No listed skill has a pool-run outcome comparison with a no-skill brief.
