AI Web Design & Frontend Skills Catalog/A no-install trial still needs a complete skill prompt

7 October 2026 · Source and user-report check

You can trial a skill without installing it. Check what reached the agent.

Vercel Skills documents skills use as a way to load one skill for a session without adding it to an agent's skill directory. Its inspected source copies the selected files to a temporary directory and builds a prompt from SKILL.md. With --agent, it starts the agent with that prompt; without it, it writes the prompt to standard output. This is a trial route, not proof that the skill works on your frontend task.

Choose the trial route

You want to compare one candidate with a no-skill runRead the skill and its files, then use the documented --agent route for one named task. Keep model, project, brief, and acceptance checks the same. The source is mutable. Record the exact skill revision and inspect the rendered result. We did not run the CLI or compare outcomes.
You pipe skills use output into an agentCheck that the receiving agent got the complete SKILL.md, not only its header. One user reported that version 1.5.23 truncated piped output to 512 bytes. The issue was open when checked; this pool did not reproduce it or verify current versions.
You decide to keep the skillInstall it at the intended project or global scope and record the source revision and any local edits.A temporary trial does not test the installed copy or future updates.

What this changes

A quick trial can avoid a permanent skill addition while you compare it with a careful no-skill brief. It still loads external instructions into an agent. Review the files before use, confirm the prompt arrived, and judge the actual frontend output. The sixteen catalogue listings still have no pool-run comparison against a no-skill baseline.

Evidence limit: Maintainer documentation and source describe the route. The truncation is a user report for a named CLI version, not a pool reproduction. The code and issue may change.
