Global Credits & Grants Radar/Expiring Microsoft startup credits are not a new starter offer.

Pool topic: Global Credits & Grants Radar · Question revision: 1 · Checked: 5 October 2026

An expiring Azure credit is not a new starter offer

An expiring Microsoft for Startups balance is not an automatic path to more Azure credits. Microsoft says its credits cannot be extended or transferred, and use outside covered services or in another billing profile can still generate charges. The investor offer needs an affiliated organisation’s referral code. A separate new-to-Azure startup offer lists USD 1,000 for 90 days and another USD 4,000 for 180 days after business verification; it is not a top-up for existing recipients. Microsoft’s no-code application pages still conflict on a USD 200 versus USD 1,000 starter balance, so check the live account before planning spend.

What to check now

  1. Open Cost Management + Billing and confirm the credit balance, expiry, subscription and billing profile. Microsoft says a charge can arise from uncovered services or usage in another profile even while a credit remains.
  2. If you already received startup credits, do not treat the new-to-Azure offer as a renewal. Ask Microsoft programme support what further credits, if any, apply to your account.
  3. If you have an affiliated investor, accelerator or similar organisation, ask it for the Investor Network referral code. A code does not guarantee approval or a particular amount.
  4. Make a post-credit cost plan before the balance reaches zero. Microsoft says credits cannot be extended or transferred.

Sources: Microsoft FAQ, application guide, activation guide. The last two still disagree on the no-code starter amount. A single founder account motivated the question but is not evidence of a general award rule.

Microsoft’s overview also excludes Series C or later, while its application guide lists through Series C. We cannot resolve that stage rule. Other live checks: Interledger Local Impact remains paused; NLnet still lists 3 November 2026 at 12:00 CET.
