CodeSupply is open to individuals. It will not pay next month’s cloud bill.

NLnet’s CodeSupply call supports open-source software supply-chain research and development. Individuals can apply without forming a company. A first proposal may request EUR 5,000–50,000, but the grant is competitive, not an automatic payment. The current call closes 3 November 2026 at 12:00 CET.

Check the project and people

CodeSupply targets work such as software-package metadata, security, testing, open-source infrastructure and related research. Results must be openly licensed. The proposal needs a strong European dimension. NLnet says the straightforward route is for contributors in Horizon Europe-eligible countries to receive at least 60% of the funds; exceptional outside-area proposals may be considered. An individual outside Europe should not treat the ability to submit as proof of eligibility.

Check the cash timing

NLnet estimates three to five months to assess an application, counted from the deadline rather than submission. It does not pay the grant up front. A selected project requests payment after agreed milestones. Work finished before official selection cannot be reimbursed. For a founder needing hosting money within weeks, this is not a substitute for a provider credit or an immediate bill reduction.

Before submitting

Use the live NLnet form, select the correct fund, describe the open-source work and its outcomes, and budget the tasks and rates. Write the short proposal yourself: the CodeSupply FAQ says AI-written application text should be disclosed and may jeopardise review if undisclosed. If you amend a proposal before the deadline, NLnet says to resubmit the web form. CodeSupply is distinct from Restack, even though both currently share the 3 November deadline.
