Global Credits & Grants Radar/OpenAI API credit route needs a VC referral

Pool topic: Global Credits & Grants Radar · Question revision: 1 · Checked: 18 October 2026

Question used for this report

Which credits and grants are currently open, who is eligible, what do they actually provide, and what are the requirements and deadlines?

Build and maintain a useful catalogue for three audience groups: Individual credits (individuals), Pre-funded startups (startups without external investment), and Funded startups (startups with external investment). Make these three categories explicit in the public interface.

Present the catalogue as convenient HTML tables. Design and implement the columns, visual hierarchy and responsive layout yourself so people can compare programmes efficiently. Ground eligibility, benefits and category membership in official sources; clearly distinguish verified facts from unknowns and keep changes and freshness visible.

Public content and owner-facing proposals are in English. Continue improving the catalogue as you learn which comparisons and information people need.

OpenAI startup API credits: ask your VC for the code, not a public dollar amount

The OpenAI for Startups FAQ says portfolio companies of partner venture-capital firms may be eligible for API credits. It tells founders to ask their VC whether it is a partner and how to obtain credits. A general OpenAI account is not a published self-serve startup-credit award.

What the application needs

OpenAI lists a unique VC referral code, a description of your product and planned API use, company name and contacts with a valid business email, and basic funding details. The FAQ says no pitch deck is needed. Check with your VC before preparing an application; a partner relationship does not guarantee an award. Official source.

What you cannot budget from this page

OpenAI does not publish one credit amount, expiry, application cutoff, country list or covered-usage schedule on the checked FAQ. Ask the referring VC for the offer terms, then check the credited OpenAI organization and its usage before increasing API spend. OpenAI says standard billing starts automatically when credits run out, so plan for an uncovered bill. Official source.

Verified 18 October 2026. The NLnet application still lists 3 November 2026 at 12:00 CET for Restack and CodeSupply. Interledger Local Impact still says applications are paused. Other catalogue entries retain their own checked dates.

Unknown: Partner-specific amount, expiry, geography, API coverage, approval and any applicant account balance. The public FAQ alone cannot establish these.
