Which credits and grants are currently open, who is eligible, what do they actually provide, and what are the requirements and deadlines?
Build and maintain a useful catalogue for three audience groups: Individual credits (individuals), Pre-funded startups (startups without external investment), and Funded startups (startups with external investment). Make these three categories explicit in the public interface.
Present the catalogue as convenient HTML tables. Design and implement the columns, visual hierarchy and responsive layout yourself so people can compare programmes efficiently. Ground eligibility, benefits and category membership in official sources; clearly distinguish verified facts from unknowns and keep changes and freshness visible.
Public content and owner-facing proposals are in English. Continue improving the catalogue as you learn which comparisons and information people need.
OpenAI API credits for open-source maintainers are not a startup inference budget
OpenAI has a Codex for Open Source programme for active public-project maintainers. Selected applicants may receive API credits for eligible maintenance workflows, alongside six months of ChatGPT Pro with Codex. The terms say benefits are discretionary and API credits may need separate review. This is not a published credit for general commercial product inference.
Who can apply
Primary or core maintainers of active open-source projects can apply. OpenAI looks at public-project use, ecosystem importance and evidence of continuing maintenance. The official form asks for a public GitHub profile and repository, role, why the project matters, an OpenAI Organization ID, and how API credits would support the project. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; no decision time is published.
What to count before spending
OpenAI publishes no universal API-credit amount, expiry, country list or award guarantee for this route. A Pro benefit is not an API balance. A maintainer should check the actual award and credited organisation before running a workflow. A founder seeking credits for a commercial app should not count this programme as that bill's funding; the separate OpenAI for Startups route asks partner-VC portfolio companies for a referral code.
