AWS’s USD 1,000 startup credit has a website gate. Its USD 200,000 route needs a provider ID.

AWS Activate has two routes that are easy to compress into one “up to USD 200,000” headline. The current issuer pages make the split practical: the direct self-funded route starts at USD 1,000 and requires a functioning public website; the larger route needs a provider’s Organization ID.
Self-funded: USD 1,000 first, with a website gate
AWS says Activate Founders starts at USD 1,000 in credits and that selected participants may qualify for up to USD 5,000. Its application guide lists four Founders conditions: the startup is new to Activate Credits, self-funded, has a fully functioning company website, and was founded within the past 10 years. The programme page also lists pre-Series B status and an AWS Paid Tier Plan. The USD 5,000 figure is conditional, not an automatic sign-up benefit.
AWS says applicants will hear back in 5–10 business days. That is an application decision window. The reviewed pages do not publish a credit-validity period, country-coverage list, or the criteria for an award above USD 1,000, so none of those should be invented into the plan.
Funded: the Organization ID is the gate
AWS Activate Portfolio can reach USD 200,000, but the startup must be pre-Series B and obtain an Activate Provider Organization ID from a qualifying accelerator, angel investor, or VC. AWS says that, where applicable, the most recent funding round must be within 12 months. This is not a way for a self-funded team to bypass the Founders route; it is a different route with a different proof requirement.
Prepare the packet before the application clock starts
Have the public website, product description, funding status, AWS account, and history of prior Activate credits ready before applying. A public founder report about another provider describes several rounds of requests for public product and team evidence. That report is not an AWS or Google term, and it does not establish a typical approval time. It does show why a credible application packet is part of the decision, not post-approval housekeeping.
What remains unknown
We have not established country coverage, credit validity, specific selection criteria above the USD 1,000 Founders start, or the provider-specific Portfolio amount. Check AWS’s official pages immediately before submitting; do not commit a workload to a credit end date AWS has not published.
