MongoDB for Startups answers one early-founder question cleanly: a VC, accelerator, or incubator is not required to submit an application. It leaves another answer blank: the issuer does not state the base-tier Atlas-credit amount. Both facts belong in the same decision.
Direct does not mean unrestricted
MongoDB says its base tier looks for a startup that is less than seven years old, Series A or earlier, building one scalable software-based product or service, new to the programme, and established online with an active company website and LinkedIn profile. Development shops and agencies are not eligible. A founder without a VC, accelerator, or incubator may apply directly from the programme page.
This can fit a self-funded team and an early funded team, but it does not fit every startup. A later-stage company, an agency, or a company without the required public footprint should not read a direct application link as a likely approval.
The two clocks are published
MongoDB says an accepted startup receives a promo code in its welcome email. The startup has 12 months to activate that code. Once activated, it has 12 months to use its Atlas credits. An extension can be requested case by case; the issuer does not promise one. These are credit and activation clocks, not a published application deadline.
The number is still unknown
The current page describes baseline Atlas credits and Voyage AI tokens but does not publish the base-tier credit amount, country coverage, acceptance rate, or the tier a particular applicant will receive. That makes the honest row “amount not published,” not a guessed dollar figure or a programme-wide maximum.
Use the route only if MongoDB Atlas fits the product without a temporary subsidy. The practical next move is to compare the company profile, make the public website and LinkedIn profile accurate, then ask MongoDB what tier and amount apply before planning spend or moving a production workload.
