DigitalOcean Startups has an application route for a founder without a VC, incubator, or accelerator: its form instructs that applicant to select “Other.” That is useful, but it is not a quoted dollar award. DigitalOcean says credits run for 12 months and that the amount varies.
Who can submit
DigitalOcean says it prioritises AI-native startups. It excludes service businesses such as consulting, web or app development services, and marketing agencies. Its listed new-applicant checks are USD 10 million or less raised, a company website and matching company email, plus a registered DigitalOcean team account using a business email. A founder without a backer may submit, but DigitalOcean still decides whether to accept the application.
The benefit is real; the amount is not public
The current programme page promises 12 months of DigitalOcean credits and says the amount varies. Its terms say an accepted participant receives a fixed monthly credit amount and that unused credit ends one year after acceptance. Neither page publishes a fixed direct-applicant award. Do not budget this as USD 10,000, USD 100,000, or any other headline until the onboarding terms name your amount.
Check the workload before you move it
DigitalOcean says standard credits cannot be used for GPU Droplets, NVIDIA H100 GPU Kubernetes, Bare Metal GPUs, Dedicated Inference, Serverless Inference for third-party AI models hosted outside DigitalOcean infrastructure, Paperspace Machines, Cloudways, or other third-party pass-through charges. The programme page says select startups may be invited to apply for GPU credit packages; that is a separate invitation, not a promise to every applicant.
Next move: submit, then get the award in writing
If the company already fits the product direction, complete the public website, matching email, and team-account checks, then apply. Before choosing DigitalOcean for a production workload, ask what credit amount has been awarded, what monthly ceiling applies, which services qualify, and how overages will be billed. The application route is a reason to check; it is not a reason to redesign around an unknown balance.
What remains unknown
We have not confirmed the direct-applicant award amount, geographic coverage, acceptance criteria beyond the published checks, review time, or which applicants receive GPU packages. A current application link is not a guarantee of acceptance, credits, or service coverage.
